"Anxiety Isn’t Just ‘Worrying’—Here’s What It Actually Feels Like”

"Anxiety Isn’t Just ‘Worrying’—Here’s What It Actually Feels Like”

If someone told you anxiety is “just worrying too much,” they clearly haven’t experienced it.

Anxiety can feel like:

  • Your brain running worst-case scenarios on repeat

  • A constant knot in your stomach

  • Overthinking texts, conversations, and decisions

  • Feeling restless and exhausted at the same time

It’s not just in your head—it’s in your body too.

Why does this happen?
Your brain is trying to protect you. It’s like an overprotective security guard that sees danger everywhere—even when there isn’t any.

The problem: It doesn’t know when to clock out.

What can help (without overcomplicating it):

  • Grounding yourself: Name 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, etc.

  • Slowing your breathing (even if it feels awkward at first)

  • Writing your thoughts down to get them out of your head

Important note:
You don’t have to “just deal with it.” Talking to someone—friend, therapist, or support group—can make a huge difference.

Anxiety is common, but struggling in silence doesn’t have to be.
